Where regenerative farming, eating wholesome food, and taking joy in our journey, compliment each other.

Prairie to Fork Farm is a regenerative farm. Currently we produce 100% grass-fed beef, lamb, pastured pork, and pastured chicken. If you want to learn more about our journey and why we started our farm, visit our “About Prairie to Fork Farm” page.

100% Grass-fed and Grass-finished Beef
On our regenerative farm, we rotationally graze our cows and sheep. This improves soil, plant, and animal health. We subdivide the pasture into smaller areas called paddocks. The cows and sheep move to a new paddock before they graze their current paddock down too much. Then they have access to fresh grass away from their manure. This allows for the already grazed paddocks to rest. Finally, this allows forage plants to recover and deepen their root systems.
100% grass-fed beef or lamb means that they eat grass their entire life. They are not fed grain at the end of their life to “fatten” up before butchering. We allow our cows and sheep to “fatten” up on grass by giving them a bit more time on the grass. This is a low-stress and happy life for the cows and sheep doing what they do best, turning carbon into protein!

100% Grass-fed and Grass-finished Lamb
Sheep are a great complementary animal to cattle. They love to eat broad leaf forages, while the cows prefer mostly grass forages. This gives balance when regenerating the soil and the plants that are in the pasture.
When you manage livestock with rotational grazing, the soil sees big returns. Managed grazing encourages plants to send out deeper roots. When the roots decompose in the ground they boost soil biomass and fertility and sequester carbon from the atmosphere. The livestock distributes their manure more evenly over the ground to feed the soil microbes. Then the soil microbes feed the plants. Finally, the plants are fed back to the livestock!

Pastured Pork
The pigs at Prairie to Fork Farm are raised completely outdoors and have full access to sunshine, pasture, and wooded areas. Pastured pigs are healthier because they are able to live their lives outdoors, doing what pigs do best, rooting around looking for insects, nuts, roots, grubs and plants. They are not crowded together in a confinement house and do not require antibiotics to keep them healthy. They enjoy a diverse diet of forage, grain, and have access to clean fresh water.
We can say that raising pigs this way helps to rejuvenate parts of our farm that would otherwise be unusable due to the weeds and brush. They are essentially working for us to clear the treed and brushy parts of our farm. It is a win, win for the pigs and for us. Pastured pork is superior nutritionally to it’s counterpart, a difference you can taste!

Pastured Poultry
We take reservations for our pastured chicken. When we are raising meat chickens we put them in a mobile coop and move them once or twice a day onto fresh pasture. If you have questions, or would like to be put on a waiting list, please e-mail us at info@prairietoforkfarm.com or give us a call at 785-410-7855.

Moses and Ruth live with the sheep, protecting them from the predators we have on our farm, such as coyotes. They are a Maremma Sheepdog, Anatolian Shepherd, and Great Pyrenees cross.
